Workshops on aviation security begin in Maldives

The Cooperative Aviation Security Programme – Asia Pacific (CASP-AP) on Monday commenced two workshops at Velana International Airport targeting the aviation authorities of five countries of the Asia-Pacific Region.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held in the Coast Guard Building, Minister of Defence Adam Shareef stressed the importance of these programmes and declared that the Maldives also boasts a great many individuals suited to such tasks.

CASP-AP will conduct the first programme “CASP-AP Airport Security Development Workshop” from Monday to Thursday, while the “Special Quality Control Phase 3” workshop is scheduled for May 14 to 18.

Representing the Maldives in these workshops are 20 employees from Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), Aviation Security Command, Gan International Airport, Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL), Dhaal domestic airport, and Transmaldivian Airways (TMA). Participating nations in addition to the Maldives are Bhutan, Indonesia, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
