The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has donated USD 500,000 (MVR 77 million) to the Maldives for the country’s developmental projects.

In a statement released Monday, Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) proclaimed that the donation was presented to the government of the Maldives to help finance the archipelago’s mega developmental projects, advance the economy, and improve the living standards of Maldivians.

The agreement was signed by the Ambassador of the Maldives to the UAE, Dr Hussain Niyaz, and ADFD’s Director General Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi at a ceremony held at ADFD’s main headquarters.

Suwaidi declared that the donation falls under UAE’s efforts to help relieve economic difficulties faced by various countries around the world. Expressing pride over the enduring relations between the Maldives and UAE, he vowed that the monarchy will continue to support the developmental, economic and social progress of the Maldives.

The Emirates has long been a generous ally that financially supported the Maldives in its mega projects. To date, the UAE has presented over MVR 400 million to advance housing, telecommunications and transportation in the island nation.
