Maldives Police Service on Monday confirmed that two of the suspects arrested over the murder of renowned blogger and social media activist Yameen Rasheed are the men who were caught on surveillance cameras in Yameen’s building.
A few days after Yameen Rasheed, 29, of Addu atoll Feydhoo island was found murdered with multiple stab wounds by the stairway of his house in capital Male, Police had released images of CCTV footage which depicted two men that entered Yameen’s building the night of his murder. In their latest statement, Police disclosed that they have apprehended seven people in the case so far and two of them are the men in the surveillance footage.
However, Police did not clarify when the two caught on surveillance were taken under custody.
Meanwhile, Police also arrested a lawyer, Ali Shah, late Sunday under accusations of obstructing the police investigation into Yameen’s murder.
An official of Police headquarters reiterated that they investigation is making steady progress with cooperation from various authorities and individuals, again declaring that there is hope of closing the case successfully.
