The Prosecutor General’s Office resubmitted its three charges against Jumhoory Party’s leader Qasim Ibrahim on Wednesday after the Criminal Court threw out the case last Monday.

The Criminal Court sent the case back to the PG Office after the prosecution failed to turn up at the hearing Monday night.

In a statement, the PG Office stated that the Criminal Court had sent back the case despite the PG Office’s request in writing to postpone Monday night’s hearing to Tuesday. The Office added that it had looked over all the necessary case points before the resubmission.

Meanwhile, Qasim Ibrahim’s lawyers have claimed that the PG Office cannot lawfully resubmit the case after the Criminal Court threw it out, under the recently implemented Criminal Procedure Act.

The state is pressing three charges against the lawmaker of Maamigili constituency for attempted bribery, coercion with regards to official duties and undue influence on voters in connection to the previous motion of no confidence submitted by the opposition against the parliament speaker.
