Ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)’s lawmaker of Inguraidhoo constituency, Ibrahim Falah, claimed that the opposition coalition consists of members who can all be easily bought.
Speaking at the ruling coalition’s rally held late Wednesday, Falah declared that the citizens have said ‘yes’ for President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom in the last election, and that it has created dispute within the opposition afterwards.
Noting that opposition members do not have any loyalty, Falah claimed that there is not anyone in the opposition who would not “bite the bait on a hook”.
“Some of them will bite if you throw a fishing line with an island on the hook [as bait]. Others will bite if you throw a line with a fancy job. And others will bite if there is presidency on the hook. These are the true colours of these people. What I’ve listed are the things they want.”
He added that none of the PPM lawmakers can be bought, and claimed that talks of the ruling party losing the majority of the councils is only spread to create mayhem among the public.
He also criticized the opposition by saying that, ahead of the Presidential Elections 2018, the opposition coalition does not have a true leader among them.
Speaking at the rally, deputy leader of PPM Abdul Raheem Abdulla stated that there is nothing left to be given to the opposition from the ruling coalition.
Highlighting the results of the Local Council Election, Abdul Raheem added that the opposition only finds the government institutions to be “wrong” when something happens against their wish, and if things are in the opposition’s favor, nothing can be found “wrong” within the state institutions.
Furthermore, ruling coalition members who spoke at the rally heavily criticized the opposition and claimed that they will be divided ahead of the Presidential Elections next year.
