Man hit by motorcycle left critical in Kulhudhuffushi island

An elderly man was left critical after an accident with a speeding motorcycle in the island of Kulhudhuffushi in Haa Dhaal atoll late Tuesday.

Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital stated Wednesday that Hussain Yoosuf, 74, is in critical condition with most of his head and face crushed in. An official of the hospital said they are working to transfer him to capital Male for further treatment.

Mihaaru understands that the accident occurred when a speeding motorcycle collided with another motorcycle it was trying to overtake, causing the former to lose control and crash into Hussain Yoosuf who was about to cross the road. The accident took place close to the mosque where Hussain Yoosuf was headed for the evening prayer.

The motorcyclist had initially fled the scene but later turned himself in to the police.

According to the hospital’s official, Hussain Yoosuf had been unconscious when he was taken to the hospital. He has since regained consciousness but his condition remains serious.

The cyclists on the second motorbike were a woman and child though neither suffered serious injuries.
