Maldives pres to receive honorary doctorate from Indian university

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom is to receive an honorary doctorate from a private university of India, announced the President’s Office’s spokesperson Ibrahim Muaz Ali on Saturday.

In a tweet, Muaz stated that Lovely Professional University (LPU) will award an honorary doctorate to the president in appreciation of his services to the Maldivian society.

The President’s Office is yet to declare the date of the ceremony or whether President Yameen is confirmed to attend.

A number of Maldivian students also study at LPU which is based in Punjab. The private university has a student population of 45,000 and 3,500 staff.
