The Maldives government published the official regulations to sell the lands acquired by the state under the Veshi Fahi Male Program.
Under the program, flats are given to residents of capital Male in exchange for the land owned by the person respectively. Government has granted a three month period for the successors of the Veshi Fahi Male Program as they have not cleared the procedures yet.
According to Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure, the land will be sold if only it cannot be used as a green area, parking space or any other social benefit.
With the enactment of this regulation, the neighbours of the land will be given a higher priority while another party would be awarded the land only in circumstance where a neighbour has not applied to do so.
The land will be awarded within a bid process to the highest price offered.
According to the Housing Ministry, the registry of the land will be changed to the new owner once the legal procedure and payment are completed.
