Former Vice President Mohamed Jameel Ahmed proclaimed that the government must treat all prisoners humanely and with dignity, and that the differences between politicians and heinous criminals cannot be undermined.
Making the remark in a tweet he posted, the former VP highlighted that murder is a serious crime and that the government should not step back in imposing impartial punishment on such criminals.
In another tweet, he stated that a lot of current prisoners are being deprived of their rights and stressed that some of them are wrongly accused.
While former VP Jameel reiterated the differentiating between political prisoners and heinous criminals, many are criticizing the government for not allowing jailed former VP Ahmed Adheeb to travel abroad for medical treatment.
On the matter, the state responded that if Adheeb is given permission, he might try to abscond which is a risk too high for the government.
Adheeb’s family have said that he is suffering from multiple health conditions, including glaucoma, an internal cyst and kidney stones. They have requested permission from authorities’ multiple times to send Adheeb abroad for medical treatment.
