The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) on Tuesday revealed that 31 individuals have submitted applications for vacant judicial posts.

The judicial watchdog announced vacancies for four Criminal Court and two Civil Court judges, on August 17. The deadline for applications closed last Sunday.

Interested applicants were required to have an LLB or a Degree in Islamic Shariah, and minimum two years of experience as a lawyer or a judge. Only applicants above the age of 25 were eligible to apply for the posts.

A Criminal Court judge gets paid approximately MVR 48,000 per month, including incentives whilst a Civil Court judge receives up to MVR 46,000 per month. Additionally, they get a phone allowance and health insurance.
